Architectural Guide

St Laurence features typical Anglo-Saxon architecture. The extent and richness of its decoration however are rare, perhaps suggesting it was designed partly for the relics of Æthelred’s brother Edward the Martyr, which were housed with the nuns at Shaftesbury

The church you see today is a result of 19th and 20th century renovation and repairs instigated by Canon Jones, Vicar of Holy Trinity and an ardent archaeologist and historian.

A leaflet is available in the nave which gives more detailed information than is included here.
